2021 HAVOC/SOS Mid-Week-Orienteering Event No.1 (of 8)
SOS Event 1 - Beaulieu, Chelmsford
Wednesday 7th April 2021 - Evening

Organiser/Planner: Jackie Sibthorp, jackie_sibthorp@hotmail.com

Planners’s Report

Thank you to everyone who came along to the first event in the Mid-week 2021 series, which is our first joint venture with HAVOC – with each club putting on four events, with the best six results scoring. We had a record number of entries with a total of 54 entrants, 19 on the short course & 35 on the long course.

It was a chilly but bright evening, and for many it was their first trip around the new area of Beaulieu. It was interesting to see the many types of houses , built with open spaces and lots of small roads and alleyways which made for interesting route choices (including dead ends where the construction was still underway!).

I must apologise for the incorrect control on both courses – most people did manage to find the one I intended to use and noted down this number – but for consistency of results this control was ignored when it came to the scoring.

Congratulations to Chris Prince – who was the first man home in the long course event, and Well Done to mid-week series first timer Lizzie Broughton who was the first woman home.

Well Done to Matthew Wadey who was the first man on short course, and also to Mel Sirett & first timer Joanne Williams who were the first ladies home.

It was also great to see several juniors running the course, all getting very good times – and appearing well-placed in the results.

It was lovely to see everyone again, and even though we couldn’t have an ‘after-event’ beverage, most people managed a quick catch-up with their friends who they hadn’t seen for a while! Thanks for following the Covid protocols – and we look forward to seeing you at the next event in a couple of weeks.

A big thank you to Alan who was assisting me on the night, and also helped set up the event.
